UKULELE VOLUNTEERS
Thank Quentin Loth and Germain Pastar for spending your wonderful time at MES giving such useful ukulele lessons for kids. You guys are great ukulele players and the kids enjoyed it very much and they hope to see you again.
Quentin Loth and Germain Pastar are from France and very talented at ukulele. The were on holiday for a few days in Luang Prabang and have brought the ukuleles with them. After they found MES they decided to help the kids learn ukulele. MES hopes they had a good time at the school and enjoyed learn Lao songs from the kids as the kid learning English song from them.
Also special thanks to these three guys Ryan Mann, Ian Reynolds and Jasper from Canada for your visit and some donation money.
WEEKEND PRACTICE
On the weekend MES is opened from 9: 00 – 11:00 am like week days in the morning and in the afternoon is from 12:00 – 3:00 pm. Since MES has also open on the weekend for students who have time and want to practice to come, MES is quite also busy on the weekend. This weekend, we had more students than usual, we also putting talented students together to form a MES band.
A HOME MADE CARJON
MES staffs made a carjon for students to play with their acoustic guitar. We bought flier-wood and cut it in pieces to make a box and use a thinner piece for the beating side and use the old guitar strings for the snares. The first carjon is being played and it sounds just wonderful and the other cajon is being made.
International Children’s Day
What an exciting day! There was a big performance in town for kids from many different school. The event start from 8:00 until 12:00 am. The governor of Luang Prabang opened the stage and gave a small talk then planted some tree. After that listened to the story of Children’s Day and gave some flowers for kids that attended the show. There were all about 10 shows and kids from Music for Everyone school was the first on stage.
The kids did such a wonderful job and many people enjoyed the shows. Some of them got to know more about MES and many kids from MES were interviewed by the provincial journalist. And before the show close, MES students were invited to play again for several songs and the audience jumped danced in front of the stage.
Last but not least, special THANKS to Daomany who has been really nice and kinds informed us about the events and let MES use some space.
Volunteering Posters in Public sights
As many people do not yet know about MES and some of them found out about MES on their last day which is a pity, because they would like to volunteer but have to leave. To help other people who would like to volunteer at MES longer to find us earlier before they have decided to leave, we labeled some posters along the road and places that easy for anyone to read.
THANKS FOR DONATIONS
STUDENT VOLUNTEERS
STUDENTS UPDATE
As numbers of the MES students getting up and down in each week, we are trying to find the reason why. Some of them are busy helping their families doing housework at home, some take extra classes in other subjects, some really want to come but have too much home work to do. Some come for a while and find it too hard and give up. Even though, there are some always attend the classes and never give up and lately, MES is getting more people. From next months, the public school will have a three-month holiday and MES expects to have full classes both morning and evening and both guitar and ukulele.
MORE PAINTINGS IN THE CLASSROOMS AND MORE BROCHURES IN PUBLIC
…one thing to improve MES to look not just a house building, but a nice colorful music centre. To start with we paint it a little by little and we welcome anyone to add their favorite characters. Last week, we had a student and one of the staffs added some characters.
…We have also handed out more brochures in public and business in town to welcome more visitors and volunteers to MES. Last week, we had Katie from England, Barrdo from America, Prone from China, a guy from Japan (his name was written in Japanese).
Prone plays saxophone and he has his saxophone with him, also guitar and drums. He found the information of MES on the flyer at Utopia Restaurant and then he came to visit MES. He said: “Music, above all else, is the purest form of humanity. It stopped in for a look and ended up staying for hours sharing in the joyful refrain. Thank you for having me.” He also worked with students with drums and guitars.
Thank Somphan & Paintings
Thank Somphan for doing temporary administration at MES for totally three months and had developed many things at MES. He was happy to leave his job at MES because it was a long day and he wanted more time to relax and for his other job. MES really appreciate his time and work at MES and hope to see him around.
Other activities that happened at MES last week, ” I the director of MES spent some of my time (and free time) painted on the pole at the gate and in the classroom.” We also had two visitors Michelle and Monica from China, and a visitor Kaori from Japan.
