AN HOUR STOP
It was certainly a pleasant surprise when Joscha arrived at MES on Saturday afternoon and asked for an hour practice at MES. Joscha is from Germany and has been in Luang Prabang for 3 weeks. The last two weeks, he’s been busy assisting arranging things for the visit of the president of the USA Barack Obama. Thank you so much for coming. It was good to meet you.

TRADITIONAL IRISH MUSIC
We had a very nice and lovely visit from Brian Burd and Fran Malinoff! They live in Santa Barbara, California (USA). They are in Luang Prabang while Fran works at the Lao Friends children’s hospital.
On the first evening, the students were taught how to play some of the following songs.
Julia Delaney and Cooley’s. (Irish reels in 4/4 time. )
Fair Jenny’s. ( Irish jig in 6/8 time. )
Fanny Power. ( A classical Irish waltz written by O’Carolan. It is in 3/4 time.)
The mos special memory, Brian played us his own song “In Old Galway”. Which is a song he wrote after Fran and him visited Galway, Ireland. I had also sang this song as a “guest ” with Fran’s band Shepherd ‘s Pie. http://mysheps.com/
The second day, they also learnt to play chords in different positions on the guitar. For example, one of them play open G chord , the other don’t have to play in the same chord position. To fill out the “sonic” space one guitar, they can play a lower G chord while the other plays a G chord higher on the neck. This helps helps them learn that when we play with friends. It gives a richer sound.
We the students and staff of MES are forever grateful that you shared your traditional Irish music with us.
SA LAK CHIT
Here’s one of our covered songs, that we just use a camera from a mobile phone to record. Thank you for views and likes and share of this video on facebook!
COMPUTERS DONATION
We would like to thank you both from the bottom of our heart Anna and Drimitri for organizing and sending MES recent donation of 4 computers, they are not new but well functioning and in a good condition. Thank you Drimitri’s company and special thanks Baptiste and a friend who heavily carried them a long way from France and giving more donations of guitar strings and tuners. The computers we received are now being changed the language. The children at the school will be so excited to use them. Please know how much you’ve helped them and how appreciative we are of your kindness.
PIANO LESSON WITH JOSHUA ROBBIE
Thank you Josh for coming and sharing a special time with us at MES!
Josh is a music teacher/researcher from the United States. Himself and friend Peter are traveling around Southeast Asia and arrived in Luang Prabang. Josh has a strong interest in learning about music of whichever region he is in as well as using his skills to teach others.
GUITAR VOLUNTEER MARC
Marc-Etienne Leclerc from Cannada is on his holiday is Southeast Asia. He’s travelling with his classical guitar. He came across MES in the very hot sunny afternoon and spent his hours with some students, helping them with some music scales and theory of how chords work, etc. We will always be grateful for all that you have done to help us!
