A FRIENDLY VISITOR MARLENE LACHCIK
It’s great meeting you dear Marlene. Hope you had a good time practicing your piano lessons and thanks for giving some lessons at MES and the lesson book.
Marlene is a very nice and kind lady who can play the piano quite well and has been on holiday and stayed away from home for a few months. She visited Siam Reap, Cambodia before her journey to Laos. She also mentioned hat there, she also visited MES Cambodia. She also brings good things about MES Cambodia which is a very good news for MES Cambodia.
Marlene did not stay for many days but more that a few hours in a practice room to practice the piano on her own before someone came in and asked her some questions. Before her leaving, she also made a monetary donation. MES cannot thank you enough for your kindness, but wish you a great holiday.

Music for Everyone School (MES)

Director of MES, Max |
The discovery of this marvelous little music school was the source of inspiration for this post. I stumbled across its website recently and, as music played such a major role in my childhood, I was eager to check it out. So I took a trip over there to find out more.
“After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music” – Aldous Huxley
The school is across the old bridge over the Nam Khan, down the road to Taohai temple. As I entered the cooling air of the building, I was greeted by a wall of instruments, photos of smiling kids and the echoes of little Lao voices singing “You are my sunshine” wafting down the hall. Then along came the charming director Max, who graciously gave me a tour and told me more about the school. MES was set up by a Korean charity called Music Fun, and opened in July 2013. It is a non-profit organisation with the aim of bringing music education and tuition to Lao children, helping local kids who love music gain access to instruments and teaching that they otherwise would not have. The school has four classrooms – 2 practice rooms, 1 study room and 1 band room – and gives basic music lessons in acoustic, bass and electric guitar, as well as ukelele, drums and piano.

If you have music skills you can offer, the school is always on the lookout for volunteers. They also need help with fundraising and technical support, and donations are always welcome. And if you’re curious to know why music education is so powerful, and so important and valuable for kids, then you might want to check out this link.

LAO CULTURAL FESTIVAL
Lao Cultural Festival “Understanding Diversity” was taken place at Old Souphanouvong University Campus on Saturday 19th. The opening ceremony was started in the morning at 10 am and followed by the ethnic minorities’ food and cultures stands. In the evening, from 7:00 to 10 pm, there were ethnic minorities’ performances. There were more than 10 ethnic minorities presented by the grade 4 English students and their friends.
Extremely excited! The traditional musicians from MES were invited to shared some songs on the stage, they were quite nervous and very exited. It’s their first performance on the stage and they did a fantastic job.
Last but not least, MES and the students really appreciate and thank you Mr. Vikate Phannlath the project director for the generous invitation and opportunity.

Thanks a friend Jeannette and LEOT Center for your kind donations!
Thanks a friend Jeannette and LEOT Center for your kind donations a computer and some headphones. Your caring support of the Music for Everyone School will make a great different at the school and in the lives of many students here.
Your gifts are already being used to serve musician students to help them learn more songs and how to play music and instruments online. There’s no doubt that the need is huge and there are more than two kids sitting in front of it every 15 minutes every evening.
Thank you again for your compassionate support. We hope that you will continue to partner with us in our commitment to help the others and spread/share the music.
